Installing Yuzu Emulator on Windows

Yuzu Emulator has earned its reputation as the most dependable Nintendo Switch emulator for Windows. Despite being discontinued, its performance, compatibility, and feature-rich design continue to make it popular among enthusiasts.

This guide will walk you through the process of downloading, installing, and configuring Yuzu on your Windows system for optimum performance.

1. System Requirements

Before proceeding, ensure that your system meets all of the required specifications.

Minimum Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7, 10, or 11 (64-bit)
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • GPU: OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.1 support (NVIDIA or AMD recommended)
  • RAM: 8 GB or more
  • Storage: 500 MB for emulator + game files
  • Internet: For downloading and installation

4. Installing the Emulator

  • Extract the ZIP file with Windows Explorer or a third-party tool such as 7-Zip.
  • Find the extracted folder yuzu-windows-msvc-early-access.
  • Double-click Yuzu.exe to start the emulator.

No formal installation is necessary. Yuzu starts directly from the extracted folder.

5. First-Time Setup

Yuzu will prompt you to configure essential components on the first launch.

Load Console Keys

Add Game Directory

  • Go to File > Load Folder and select the directory containing your game files.

6. Add Games to Yuzu Emulator

Yuzu supports game files with extensions.XCI,.NSP, and.NCA. To add your games:

  1. Open the Yuzu.
  2. Navigate to File > Load Folder.
  3. Navigate to the folder where your games are saved.
  4. Select the folder and then click OK.

The emulator will automatically generate a list of available games and display them in the interface..

7. Adjust CPU and GPU Settings

Tweak Yuzu’s settings to improve performance and compatibility with your hardware.

CPU Settings:

  • Navigate to Emulation > Configuration > CPU
  • Select:

GPU Settings:

8. Configure Controllers on PC

To configure controllers on a PC, follow the steps listed below.

  1. Make sure Yuzu is installed and then launch it.
  2. To access the configuration menu, choose Emulation > Configure from the top menu bar.
  3. Navigate to the Controls tab. You will find options for Connect Controller, Input Device, and Profile.
  4. Select Pro Controller (or another controller type) from the Connect Controller menu.
  5. Select your connected controller under Input Device.
  6. You will now see your controller and its button layout (e.g., left and right sticks).
  7. Map buttons by selecting the control options and pressing OK to save the configuration.
  8. To make a profile for the controller, configure your mappings, then click New under Profile, give it a name, and click OK.

Your controller is now configured and ready for use with Yuzu, and the profile will be applied automatically each time it is detected.
