Supported Yuzu Controllers

Supported Controllers and Gamepads for Yuzu Emulator

Using a controller with Yuzu Emulator allows for a more authentic and immersive gaming experience. Whether you enjoy racing, platformers, or action games, the right controller makes all the difference. Here’s a list of officially supported controllers, partially compatible models, and how to connect them to Yuzu.

Sony DualSense 5/4 (PS5 and PS4 Controllers)

The DualShock 4 (PS4) and DualSense (PS5) controllers are compatible with Yuzu. The support for haptic feedback, particularly on the DS5, is a significant advantage of using these. The grip, comfort, and overall tactile feel improve gameplay significantly.

  • Connection: Wired or Bluetooth
  • Motion Support: Yes (via UDP server)
  • Software Needed: None

TIP: If you prefer to go wireless, use a Bluetooth adapter.

The Xbox One controller

The Xbox One controller is a solid, ergonomic choice, particularly for extended gaming sessions. Yuzu supports it with a minimal configuration.

To setup:

  1. Select Emulation > Configure.
  2. Go to the Controls tab.
  3. Select a player (1-8).
  4. Select “Xbox Controller” under Input Device.
  • Connection: Wired or Bluetooth.
  • Easy to Use: Plug-and-Play

8BitDo Pro 2

Designed with Nintendo Switch compatibility in mind, the 8BitDo Pro 2 includes advanced features such as Hall Effect Joysticks and back buttons, making it ideal for both casual and competitive gaming.

However, there is a catch: the controller has two connection modes that may be unreliable with Yuzu. To improve compatibility, we recommend using BetterJoy (a third-party software).

Switch Joy-Cons

The original Joy-Cons are the best way to get the full Nintendo experience.

  • Key Features: Motion and Depth tracking.
  • Multiplayer: Supported (two Joy-Cons equals two players).
  • Note: BetterJoy is required for setup

Yuzu does not currently support full gesture tracking, but the Joy-Cons provide the most authentic experience for Nintendo games.

Third-Party Controllers (Untested or Partially Supported)

There are dozens of other controllers that may work with Yuzu, but they have not been officially tested. They may have issues such as input lag, drift, or disconnections.

Why Use a Controller?

To be honest, you do not want to use a keyboard to play games like Mario Kart or Pokémon Tournament DX. Controllers provide:

  • Low-latency inputs
  • Feedback that is haptic
  • Triggers that feel pressure
  • D-pads and analog sticks for accurate control
  • Console-style layout that is familiar

Even though a keyboard and mouse can be used for certain types of games, nothing compares to the tactile sensation of a controller, particularly when simulating console games.
