Yuzu Emulator Troubleshooting Guide

Have you been having problems with Yuzu? Here are some common issues and step-by-step solutions to help you solve them quickly.

1. Yuzu Won't Launch

Cause:

  • Missing or corrupted files.
  • Incorrect configuration.

Solution:

  • Reinstall Yuzu: Delete the existing Yuzu folder and download the most recent version from the official website.
  • Check dependencies: Make sure all required components, such as Visual C++ Redistributables, are installed.
  • Update Drivers: Check that your GPU drivers are up to date (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).

2. Yuzu crashes during startup

Cause:

Solution:

  • Delete Config Files: Go to:
    C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\yuzu

and delete the config folder. Yuzu will regenerate it on the next start.

  • Reinstall Keys: Place the correct prod.keys and title.keys in:
    C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\yuzu\keys.

3. Slow performance and low frame rate

Cause:

  • Inadequate hardware
  • Wrong settings

Solution:

  • Change Graphics Settings: Set the API backend to Vulkan for AMD GPUs and OpenGL for NVIDIA. To improve performance, disable V-Sync and set Resolution Scaling to 1x.
  • Enable Multicore Emulation: Enable multicore CPU emulation to make better use of multithreaded processors.
  • Background Apps: To free up system resources, close any unnecessary programs that are running in the background.

4. Game Does Not Launch or Crashes During Gameplay

Cause:

  • Unsupported or corrupted game files.
  • Missing game-specific files.

Solution:

  • Verify Game Format: Check that your game files are in.XCI,.NSP, or.NCA format.
  • Check File Integrity: Redump your game from your Nintendo Switch to make sure it is not corrupted.
  • Update Yuzu: Make sure Yuzu is up to date, as the latest version enhances game compatibility.

5. Audio issues or no sound

Cause:

  • Audio driver issues.
  • Incorrect audio settings.

Solution:

  • Configure the Audio Settings: Select an appropriate audio backend from Emulation > Configure > Audio (for example, OpenAL or XAudio).
  • Update Audio Drivers: Make sure your audio drivers are up to date.
  • Check System Volume: Make sure your system volume is not muted and is set to the proper level.

6. Controller is not working

Cause:

  • Incorrect controller configuration.
  • Driver issues with the controller.

Solution:

  • Reconfigure the Controller: Go to Emulation > Configure > Controls, then select your controller and map the buttons.
  • Check your controller drivers: Make sure they are up to date. Check that Bluetooth controllers’ drivers are working.
  • Try Another Controller: To rule out hardware issues, try using a different controller.

7. Black Screen After Launching the Game

Cause:

  • GPU compatibility issues.
  • Misconfigured settings

Solution:

  • Switch Graphics Backend:  In Emulation > Configure > Graphics, switch between Vulkan and OpenGL.
  • Lower Resolution Scaling: Set it to 1x or lower for optimal performance.
  • Disable Disk Shader Cache: Turning off Disk Shader Cache will resolve black screen issues during gameplay.

8. Yuzu runs slowly on a high-end computer

Cause:

  • Settings that have not been properly configured
  • Drivers that are outdated

Solution:

  • Update Drivers: Make sure that your GPU and CPU drivers are up to date.
  • Setup: Use Vulkan for AMD GPUs and OpenGL for NVIDIA. Enable multicore CPU emulation and reduce resolution scaling.
  • Close Background Apps: To free up system resources, close any background apps that are not needed.

9. How Yuzu Settings Can Be Reset?

Cause:

  • The default settings must be restored.

Solution:

Reset Configuration: Delete or rename the configuration folder located at C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\yuzu. When you restart Yuzu, the default settings will be generated.

10. Yuzu Only Uses Windowed Mode

Cause:

  • Incompatibilities or display settings

Solution:

  • Switch to the Full-Screen Mode: To change your display mode, choose Fullscreen under Emulation > Configure > Graphics.
  • Modify Resolution: To match the game’s native resolution if full-screen is not working, change the display resolution on your computer.

11. Games Not Detected by Yuzu

Cause:

  • File paths that are incorrect
  • Unsupported or absent game formats

Solution:

  • Verify the Game Directory: Make sure the folder containing your game files has been added to File > Load Folder.
  • Ensure Correct Game Format: Check that your game files are in the supported formats. Dump the game from your Switch again if necessary.

12. Issues with DLC or game updates

Cause:

  • Incorrect game update installation.
  • DLC files are missing.

Solution:

  • Reinstall Game Updates: Use Yuzu to download and install game updates or DLCs by going to Emulation > Install Files to NAND.
  • Check DLC Files: Ensure that any DLC is in the correct directory and recognized by Yuzu.

13. Yuzu Does Not Recognize Controller on Windows

Cause:

  • Incorrect controller configuration or missing drivers

Solution:

  • Reconfigure Controller: Navigate to Emulation > Configure > Controls, then select your connected controller.
  • Update Controller Drivers: Check for any updates to your controller drivers, particularly if you use Bluetooth.
  • Test Different USB Ports: Connect your controller to a different USB port on your computer.

14. Error: “Unable to Find Required Firmware”

Cause:

  • Missing or incorrect firmware files.

Solution:

  • Download Firmware: You must extract the necessary firmware from your Nintendo Switch. Check that your prod.keys and title.keys are properly placed in the yuzu/keys/ folder.
  • Place Firmware in the Correct Folder: Check that the firmware files are located in ~/.local/share/yuzu/keys/ (Linux) or C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\yuzu\keys\ (Windows).

15. Yuzu runs, but the screen flickers

Cause:

  • Backend graphics issues or setting conflicts

Solution:

  • Change the Graphics API: In the Emulation > Configure > Graphics tab, select Vulkan or OpenGL to find the most stable option.
  • Disable V-Sync: Turn off V-Sync to prevent screen tearing and flickering.
